Youth Development Professional

Purpose of Position:

  • To support and contribute to the mission, goals, and objectives of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI)
  • To contribute to positive member outcomes in Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, and Academic Success.
  • To model the core values of honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Member Safety – includes but not limited to the following requirements

  • Position yourself in program areas to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members. Ensure that members are never left alone and are supervised at all times.
  • Ensure attendance is maintained and turned in daily that is complete, accurate, and on-time.
  • Ensure equipment is in good condition and members are instructed in the proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Ensure members are properly supervised when being transported or when walking from one place to another.
  • Report and document all incidents and accidents as soon as they occur by filling out the proper paperwork and submitting it to the Unit Director.

Expectations regarding the performance of “other assigned duties” is based on the BGCI ability to reasonably accommodate such expectations without jeopardizing the consistent achievement of the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Pass a criminal records background check through DCS
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work, to program locations, and for other work activities.
  • Accurately assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in emergency situations.
  • Maintain emotional self-control when under personal stress.
  • Ability to move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces.
  • Possess the necessary functions for the direct supervision of members and to respond effectively to emergency situations.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing/walking for long periods of time while supervising children.
  • Reaching, lifting, balancing, etc while cleaning program areas.
  • Extensive physical movement while supervising or participating in activities with children.

Work Hours:

  • Monday – Friday | 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. | Full-time, summer employment

Compensation:

  • $7.50 to $9.00 per hour

Learning Center Coordinator

Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Unit Director and Program Director, the Indiana Kids Coordinator will plan and lead daily homework help sessions (Power Hour) as well as fun, educational, structured and age-appropriate activities for children ages 5-18.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and carry out effective and appropriate incentive programs to encourage children to participate in Power Hour.
  • Supervise groups of children during Power Hour.
  • Supervise individual and/or groups of volunteer tutors during Power Hour.  Ensure that volunteers are appropriately assigned to children who need tutoring help.  Ensure that volunteers are kept busy and productive and follow applicable BGCI volunteer practices and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of members’ academic progress as instructed.
  • Plan and supervise learning center activities for children ages 5-18 that are:
    • Safe
    • Fun
    • Educational
    • Structured
    • Age appropriate
  • Provide positive guidance and discipline for youth in assigned program areas.
  • Oversee learning center supplies and equipment (request additional supplies when needed, request equipment maintenance when needed).
  • Clean learning center area daily.
  • Accurately track participation of members in programs as well as program outcomes.
  • Enthusiastically complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education degree or related college coursework.
  • Significant experience working with children ages 5-18.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for Club members.

Physical Demands:

  • Extensive physical movement while supervising or participating in activities with children.

Art Room Coordinator

Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Unit Director and Program Director, the Art Room Coordinator will plan and lead fun, educational, structured and age-appropriate activities in cultural arts, fine arts, performing arts and visual arts in order to enhance Club members’ appreciation of art and creativity.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and supervise cultural arts, fine arts, performing arts and visual arts activities for children ages 5-18 that are:
    • Safe
    • Fun
    • Educational
    • Structured
    • Age appropriate
  • Provide positive guidance and discipline for youth in assigned program areas.
  • Maximize Club member participation in BGCA’s Fine Arts and Image Makers annual competition.
  • Oversee art room supplies and equipment (request additional supplies when needed, request equipment maintenance when needed).
  • Clean art room area daily.
  • Accurately track participation of members in programs as well as program outcomes.
  • Enthusiastically complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education degree or significant experience working with children ages 5-18.
  • Degree or significant experience in the arts.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for Club members.

Under the direction of the Unit Director and Program Director, the Fitness Room Coordinator will plan and lead fun, educational, structured and age-appropriate physical fitness and wellness activities for children ages 5-18.

  • Plan and supervise physical fitness and wellness activities for children ages 5-18 that are:
    • Safe
    • Fun
    • Educational
    • Structured
    • Age appropriate
  • Provide positive guidance and discipline for youth in assigned program areas.
  • Oversee fitness room supplies and equipment (request additional supplies when needed, request equipment maintenance when needed).
  • Clean fitness room area daily.
  • Accurately track participation of members in programs as well as program outcomes.
  • Enthusiastically complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education degree or significant experience working with children ages 5-18.
  • Degree or significant experience in physical fitness and wellness.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for Club members.

Bus Driver

Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Unit Director and Program Director, the Bus Driver will drive groups of children from place to place in BGCI busses.  The Bus Driver will supervise all children on the bus and maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus at all times.

Essential Functions:

  • Drive children from place to place in BGCI busses while maintaining a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus at all times. 
  • Clean bus and perform basic maintenance checks daily.
  • Accurately complete appropriate documentation regarding bus usage and maintenance needs.
  • Provide positive guidance and discipline for youth on bus.
  • Enthusiastically complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Age 25 or older.
  • Valid CDL – B drivers license and ability to pass BMV records check.
  • Experience as a bus driver transporting groups of youth. 
  • Experience maintaining order among groups of children. 
  • Ability to serve as a role model for Club members.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting for long periods of time while driving bus and/or waiting for children to board.
  • Reaching, lifting, balancing, etc while cleaning bus.
  • Extensive physical movement while supervising children.

Work Hours:

  • Monday – Friday        2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Compensation:

  • $10.00 to $12.00 per hour
