Meet Our CEO

Maggie A. Lewis, MPA, CEO

Maggie A. Lewis has been our CEO and Executive Director since May 14, 2018. Lewis is responsible for managing the strategic direction of the organization and operations of the Clubs.

After spending her formative years at the Boys & Girls Club in Columbus, Ind., Lewis has proven herself to be an experienced leader who has an impressive history of success in private, government, and nonprofit settings and a passion for serving the public – especially those who experience the greatest need.

The dedicated leader is well-known for her work in the public sector as a member of the Indianapolis City-County Council. Elected in 2008, she currently represents the 10th District and has served in many capacities, including becoming the first woman elected to serve as Council President.

Lewis came to Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis from Centaur, Inc. where she spent four years engaging in quality assurance and supporting the company’s community relations efforts. During the past two decades, Lewis has led the vision of local nonprofit organizations, serving as executive director of the Dove Recovery House where she raised the profile, performance, and bottom line of the organization and as COO at the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF), overseeing programming, fund-raising efforts, and developing collaborative partnerships to expand the organization’s mission and vision.

Every day, 11.3 million kids (1 out of 4) leave school with no place to go. And every summer, 43 million kids lack access to summer learning programs. BGCI’s urban footprint includes 12 sites that are dedicated to improving educational and social skills, mental and physical health, and future opportunities through evidence-based programs aimed at youth ages 6–18. With goals of increasing graduation rates—plus a commitment to reducing risky behaviors—BGCI helps its members succeed both in and out of the classroom to become productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis,” says Lewis. “I am excited to have the opportunity to impact our community and the lives of the nearly 7,300 underserved youth who utilize Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. We have a responsibility to ensure that our children have the resources that will successfully contribute to their academic success, health, wellness, and character and leadership skills during out-of-school time. Our team and board of directors work tirelessly to create innovative programming and to develop new community partners to further the mission of the organization.”

Lewis holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana State University. She is married to LeRoy Lewis III and has one son. Lewis is passionately involved in supporting many organizations, including Dove Recovery House, B.U.I.L.D., LINKS, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and Mt. Paran Church.
