Safe Haven

_MG_7625

Many of our Clubs are in neighborhoods that are high poverty, low income. Often, youth don’t feel safe walking the streets where they live. We believe every child should feel safe and protected when they walk through our doors. We work hard with our Club staff and volunteers to create an environment in which youth feel safe, valued and celebrated.

Here’s what Club kids are saying about how they feel at the Club:

  • Ninety-one percent of youth enjoy coming to their Club.
  • Eighty-eight percent of members feel safe at the Club.
  • Eighty-two percent of kids like the way other kids treat them at the Club.
  • Eighty-eight percent of Club kids feel like they belong at the Club.
  • Seventy-nine percent of youth know there is at least one staff that they can talk to about their problems.

Without You…

From volunteers to staff, Club kids need support to fill in the gaps. That’s where each and every one of us comes in. Our time, money, guidance and love could mean the beginning of a youth growing into a healthy, successful adult. We all have a part. Take a look at this video to see just how much our work means to Club kids. By working together, these amazing kids can have a brighter future.

Running Away From Violence And Into A Club

Jeffrey knows the fear of being chased down the street in his own neighborhood. At 8-years-old, Jeffery became a member of the Wheeler-Dowe Club and has been there ever since. Not only does he find safety and comfort at the Club, he has adult mentors who care, great friends and is headed to college with scholarships from the Clubs. Take a look at Jeffrey’s full story here.
